Redskins acquire center Bryan Stork from Patriots

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - The Washington Redskins acquired center Bryan Stork from the New England Patriots on Wednesday for an undisclosed draft pick.

Stork appeared in 21 games the past two seasons, but started just six in 2015 after spending time on the physically unable to perform list with concussion and neck issues. The 25-year-old started the Super Bowl for New England two seasons ago.

Stork, a fourth-round pick, 105th overall, in the 2014 draft, went into training camp in competition for the starting center job with the Patriots, but suffered his fourth concussion in four years. The trade opens the door for second-year player David Andrews, who replaced Stork for 10 games last season.

"It's tough," Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said earlier in the day in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

"It's that time of year. There's a lot of movement between teams and players and everything. It's tough to see one of your guys go like that, but that's the business I guess."

In Stork, the Redskins get valuable depth at the center position. The Redskins have 31-year-old Kory Lichtensteiger as the starting center, but he missed 11 regular-season games last season with a neck injury.

Spencer Long replaced him then and was getting work as the backup center in training camp and preseason games. Long is a natural guard competing with Shawn Lauvao to start on the left side.
