Music notes: Live the 'Glory Days' with Bruce at United Center

<h3 class="briefHead">Chicago and 'The Boss'</h3>

Bruce Springsteen, arguably the king of heartland rock, has captured the struggle and spirit of the everyman since taking the stage with his hard-driving flavor of music in the early '70s. His outspoken yet pensive rock, equally perfect for a night around a campfire with friends or driving along a lonely stretch of highway, has undoubtedly influenced many musicians along the way. Springsteen and the E Street Band bring "The River Tour" to Chicago's United Center for a Sunday night performance, featuring a lottery for a chance to move to the forward barricade area closest to the stage. See unitedcenter.com for details. 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the United Center, 1901 W. Madison St., Chicago. $55-$150. (800) 745-3000 or unitedcenter.com.

<h3 class="briefHead">Rock on the river</h3>

Chicago's big summer music festival season is starting to wind down some (the upcoming North Coast and Riot Fest notwithstanding), but it's still pretty easy to find a full day of good tunes. The MoonLit Rock Showcase takes over the riverside Estate Ultra Bar Saturday with a lineup of rock, punk and alternative bands spanning the city and the suburbs, featuring The Disappointments, Werewolves at Hour 30, The Cell Phones, Chyomin, Martian Agriculture, Gallery-81, Squared Off and more. Two stages give you some breathing room; be sure to head up to the rooftop stage, where you can take in some views of the water and Chicago's skyline while enjoying the music. 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, to 3 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Estate Ultra Bar, 1177 N. Elston Ave., Chicago. $20; VIP packages also available. (312) 523-4296 or events.wamilive.com.

<h3 class="briefHead">Seal with a 'Kiss'</h3>

Seal's 1991 hit "Crazy" put the London-born singer in the international spotlight. It wasn't until 1995, though, when his "Kiss From a Rose" was featured on the soundtrack for that year's "Batman Forever" flick, that he came into prominence on American airwaves, earning him Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1996. Catch Seal when he plays these (and more recent songs) at Ravinia. 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Ravinia Festival, 200 Ravinia Park Road, Highland Park. $38-$130. (847) 266-5100 or ravinia.org.
