Society presents film on Peggy Guggenheim

The After Hours Film Society presents a special showing of "Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict" as a fundraiser at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at Ogden 6 Theatre, 1227 E. Ogden Ave., Naperville.

A colorful woman who was not only ahead of her time but helped to define it, Guggenheim was an heiress to her family fortune who became a central figure in the modern art movement. As she moved through the cultural upheaval of the 20th century, she collected not only art, but artists.

Her colorful personal history included such figures as Samuel Beckett, Max Ernst, Jackson Pollock, Alexander Calder and Marcel Duchamp, as well as countless others.

While fighting through personal tragedy, she maintained her vision to build one of the most important collections of modern art, now enshrined in her Venetian palazzo.

This showing will serve as a fundraiser for the Naperville Art League's classroom renovation project. Admission is $8 for members of the After Hours Film Society and members of other arts organizations (with an ID), and $10 for others.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at the box office during regular theater hours. For more information, call (630) 355-2530.
