WHO: ElderCARE board prepares for visit from Lake County Commissioner Mary Cunningham.

WHAT: Commissioner Cunningham will present ElderCARE with a check for over $19,000 from the Lake County Community Development Block Grant. CDBG supports ElderCARE providing free medical transportation for home bound Lake County elders. Receiving the check coincides with ElderCARE's serving its 3,000th care receiver since 1998. In 2015, 145 ElderCARE volunteers served almost 200 older adults below the poverty line, this included 1,102 round trip transportation requests and 4,888 volunteer hours. These 4,888 volunteer hours represent a value estimated of $112,766 (Independent Sector value indicator of $23.07 per volunteer hour.)

WHEN: Thursday, August 25th, 11:00am -

WHERE: Christ Episcopal Church - 410 Grand Avenue, Waukegan

MORE: "Volunteers are the backbone of our services", stated Jill Grubbs, a 18 year veteran staffer with ElderCARE. ElderCARE is always seeking new volunteers, the next volunteer training is scheduled for September 27th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Libertyville. All those interested should contact ElderCARE at 847-406-4683 or info@eldercarelakecounty.org.

99% of all those who receive the services of ElderCARE say that getting the rides have allowed them to remain independent. The average cost of a nursing home bed for a year is $80,000. Most older adults want to stay as independent as possible and ElderCARE is there for them.

So, as ElderCARE celebrates it's support from CDBG and it's 3,000th elder rider, we're also looking forward to our annual fundraiser, 'Rides for Elders' Classic Car Show, September 17 at the corner of West and Grand in Waukegan from 10:00am to 3:00pm. They'll be silent auctions, music, food and lots of beautiful cars to appreciate.
