Boys soccer: Jacobs, Dundee-Crown open with wins

Junior forward Noah Melick started right where he left off in 2015 Monday night.

The speedster scored on a feed from Dan Buirge in the first half of a season-opening boys soccer win for Jacobs as the Golden Eagles downed Metea Valley 1-0 in nonconference action.

Goalkeeper Ethan Pickering needed 4 saves to help nail down the shutout.

Dundee-Crown 7, Harlem 1: Julian Ajroja's 2 goals and Jeremy Jareckyj's 2 assists helped the Chargers (1-0) to a commanding, nonconference win. Brian Madrid, Roland Deabron, Ivan Aviles, Eric Martinez and Mario Solano all tallied goals while Gerardo Estrada, Brandon Candia, Baltazar Rodriguez and Arnol Batres each had assists. Luis Cruz and Avery Lovaglia (2 saves) split action in net.

Elgin Academy 3, Westminster Christian 2: Elliot Wittmeyer's season debut will always be memorable, as his hat trick propelled the Hilltoppers (1-0) to a win over the Warriors in an Elgin crosstown nonconference match. Wittmeyer, who put Elgin Academy in front 2-0 at the half, scored on a penalty kick, a pass from Karan Gowda and an unassisted goal. Hilltoppers goalie David Zuzevich recorded 9 saves.

Mundelein 3, CL South 1: Andrew Grabowski gave the Gators (0-1) their only goal in a Grayslake North Knight Invite loss to the Mustangs. Spencer Traub (6 saves) and Brandon Gorka (3 saves) divided time in net for South.

Leyden 3, Larkin 1: Eddie Alvarez managed the only goal for the Royals (0-1) in a loss against the Eagles.

Belvidere 1, Hampshire 0: The Whip-Purs (0-1) dropped a nonconference road opener to the Bucs on a penalty kick. Keeper Nick Surrillo made 9 saves in his varsity debut in goal.
