Illinois girl marks birthday at fire station after crash

SHERMAN, Ill. (AP) - A 7-year-old girl from central Illinois has celebrated her birthday at the fire station where the first responders work who helped save her life after she suffered a serious head injury in an automobile accident.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports (http://bit.ly/2bEDvLW ) Abigail Peddycoart went Saturday to Sherman Fire Station, where over 100 people attended a party. The June accident happened when an SUV driven by her grandmother rolled after, possibly after a tire blew out.

Sherman Fire Department's Captain Beau Friday says he thought of his own daughter when he saw Abigail at the scene. He and other emergency personnel got her to hospital quickly.

Abigail's birthday was July 29, but she was released from hospital Aug. 11. Her mother, Alison Peddycoart, says Abigail's cognitive functions are getting back to normal.
