South Carolina's Muschamp not ready to name starting QB

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - New South Carolina coach Will Muschamp says he's not ready to name a starting quarterback and will wait until closer to the Gamecocks' opener against Vanderbilt on Sept. 1.

Muschamp and his offensive staff have been looking at senior Perry Orth and freshmen Brandon McIlwain and Jake Bentley throughout the summer. Orth, a former walk-on, started eight games last season. McIlwain enrolled in January and went through spring practice. Bentley arrived this summer.

Muschamp said Sunday that all three contenders played well at a scrimmage a day earlier. He said each one "could be very productive."

Muschamp also said he might play more than one quarterback against the Commodores.

Orth's experience is also a factor, Muschamp said, because South Carolina will have several inexperienced players on offense.
