Boomers get second straight shutout

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Schaumburg Boomers logged a second consecutive shutout by blanking the Washington Wild Things 5-0 in the opener of a weekend road series on Friday night.

The Boomers provided plenty of support for starter Brett Mabry by erupting for 4 runs in the top of the third. Nick Oberg led off the inning with a single and Tobias Moreno followed suit and moved up on the throw to place runners at second and third. Jordan Dean notched a 2-run single and two batters later Kenny Towns delivered the second inside the park homer in franchise history to make it 4-0. Gerard Hall logged the last inside-the-parker on August 8, 2012 against Normal. Oberg added an RBI-single in the ninth to account for the final.

Mabry spun six blank innings, striking out 7 while walking 2 and allowing only 4 hits. Mabry has been a part of two of the four shutouts this season. Four pitchers combined to finish off the blanking. The Boomers have not allowed a run in 22.1 innings. Schaumburg finished with 10 hits as Moreno, Dean, and Oberg accounted for two apiece. Seven individuals picked up hits in the victory.

The series continues tomorrow with RHP Seth Webster (7-7, 3.98) on the hill opposite RHP Christian Powell (0-0, 0.00).
