Chicago Police arrest dozens of street gang members

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Police say they have arrested dozens of people on drug charges, including more than 60 known gang members.

In a news release on Friday, the department says the arrests were made Thursday and Friday in areas all over the city that have been identified as locations of drug dealing and gang activity. The department says the raids targeted 15 street gangs in the city.

Chicago police have been trying to drive down the surging number of homicides and other gun crimes by targeting people on its "Strategic Subject List." Those on the list have been identified as having a propensity to either commit gun crimes or be victims of gun violence.

Authorities say more than 80 percent of the offenders arrested are on that list.
