Arlington Heights library board appoints new trustee

The Arlington Heights Memorial Library board of trustees appointed a new member this week to fill a vacancy left by Kerry Pearson, who resigned from the board last month.

Marianthi Thanopoulos was chosen for the seat from a group of 21 applicants, according to a news release.

"We had an extremely strong field of 21 candidates apply and we want to thank everyone who stepped forward to express interest in this trustee appointment," said board President Debbie Smart in a news release.

Thanopoulos, an Arlington Heights resident, is employed as the public information officer for the Village of Mount Prospect and is the founder of Tharos Productions, a not-for-profit production company. She obtained a master of arts in social sciences from the University of Chicago and a bachelor of arts in communications from DePaul University, according to the release.

he formerly served as a communication and marketing liaison for the Evanston Public Library and describes herself as an "avid reader" who "deeply understands the value that people place on library services, programs, events and community outreach."

Thanopoulos will take the oath of office at the next library board meeting on Sept. 20 and will serve as a trustee until the next general election in April 2017. Arlington Heights Memorial Library trustees are elected to serve for six-year terms.
