Repeat winners in Des Plaines Curb Appeal contest

Michael Fedirko and Sam Cook's Des Plaines home has such great curb appeal, they're repeat winners in an annual citywide home improvement competition.

The residents of 1122 E. Walnut Ave. were announced this week as first-place winners in Mayor Matt Bogusz's 3rd annual Curb Appeal Challenge. Last year, they won the prize in the contest's most improved category.

Second place for 2016 best curb appeal went to 1311 E. Prairie Ave., while this year's most improved homes are at 2766 S. Scott St. (first place) and 304 Amherst Ave. (second).

Bogusz said this year's competition received the largest number of entries and online votes.

First-place winners in the two categories will get $500 and second place will get $250, courtesy of Village Bank & Trust, during a check presentation at the Sept. 6 city council meeting.
