Carol Stream man gets 25 years in prison for gun offenses

A 32-year-old Carol Stream man, with two previous armed robbery convictions, is headed to prison for a series of felonies involving a gun.

Judge Brian Telander on Tuesday sentenced James Haubrich to 25 years in prison.

Haubrich, of the 100 block of Elk Trail Road, was convicted by a jury in March of armed violence, reckless discharge of a firearm and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Prosecutors said Haubrich fired two shots at a man around 11:15 p.m. on April 20, 2014, as the victim attempted to purchase cocaine from Haubrich at Haubrich's apartment.

An argument broke out during the transaction, prosecutors said, and Haubrich fired two shots at the man but did not strike him.

A short time later, the victim found two Carol Stream police officers and told them what happened.

During a search of Haubrich's apartment, two spent bullets were located. Prosecutors said one was lodged in a wall while the other was in the floor.

Haubrich was free on $200,000 bail until March 31 when a jury convicted him of the charges. He must serve half the sentence before being eligible for the three years of parole that will follow his release.
