Jewel food collection program helps troops

Operation Support Our Troops-America will be working with two suburban Jewel food stores to collect needed items for troops serving overseas.

The Shop and Drop will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at Jewel-Osco at 1200 W. Boughton Road in Bolingbrook, and Jewel-Osco at 1227 Naper Blvd. in Naperville.

Items most needed include: flat pack tuna in foil packages, boxed crackers 14 ounces or less, beef jerky/Slim Jims, jelly 16 ounces or less/no glass and AA batteries.

Operation Support Our Troops-America is a volunteer nonprofit 501c3 organization with a four star rating from Charity Navigator. Its mission is to improve the morale of troops serving in harm's way, support the families of the deployed military and provide help and support for the returning wounded. Each military person receives a package weighing about 25 pounds and costs about $25 to ship.
