No injuries reported in Batavia fire

No one was injured in a house fire in Batavia Monday night that caused $20,000 damage, authorities said.

The fire department was called to the home in the 34W200 block of Sunset Drive at 5:15 p.m. and found the homeowner trying to control the fire with a garden hose, officials said in a news release.

The homeowner said he was repairing gutters with a torch and caught the fascia board ablaze. The fire quickly spread to an attic over the garage, officials said.

All occupants were out of the house, and the fire was contained to the garage attic, and extinguished in 35 minutes, officials said.
