First Mustang sold to public at rare car show in Mundelein

The Cruisin' with the Classics Car Show, a chance to see some rare and exotic cars not often displayed to the public, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, outside Grand Dominion Lakeside Lodge, 3555 Grand Dominion Circle, Mundelein. The show is open to the public and admission is free.

Registration is free to car owners and begins at 8:30 a.m. Around 120 cars are expected with trophies awarded for best in class and people's choice. Activities will include a DJ, trivia contest, food booths and raffle with face painting, balloon making and a bouncy house for kids.

Nonperishable food items and school supplies will be collected for the Fremont Food Pantry. Raffle proceeds and cash donations also go to the pantry.

A special exhibit titled "Flyin' down the Highway" will be held this year, with rare and exotic cars, including the first Mustang sold to the public, a one-of-a-kind Excalibur featured on "Jay Leno's Garage," several gullwings and others.

The rain date for the show is Sunday, Aug. 28.
