College of DuPage Offers New Construction Management Certificate

The new Construction Management certificate program at College of DuPage offers students a stackable credential that they can use to pursue career opportunities.

Recently approved by the Illinois Community College Board, the 32-credit hour program also gives students who have previously completed a degree in a different discipline specific construction management skills. College of DuPage offers an Associate in Applied Science in Construction Management, and the certificate is the core of the degree without the general education requirements.

"The new certificate serves two populations," said Architecture program Coordinator and Professor Jane Ostergaard. "The first population is adults working in the field who want to get a credential that will allow them to transition from the trades to the office. This content builds on their experience and gives them a credential. They then can continue by taking general education courses and obtain a degree.

"The second population is students who already have a degree but want specific industry knowledge. They often have bachelor's degrees but need the core construction management content. Through this new offering, they can obtain a credential to demonstrate their construction management competence without having to take additional general education classes."

College of DuPage is an accredited community college that serves more than 29,000 students each term. The College, which grants nine associate degrees and more than 170 certificates in 100 areas of study, is the second largest provider of public undergraduate education in Illinois.
