Boomers fall twice in doubleheader

AVON, Ohio - The Schaumburg Boomers struggled against the pitching staff of the Lake Erie Crushers, totaling just three hits in dropping both games of a doubleheader 2-0 and 4-0 on Sunday.

The first contest featured dominant pitching performances on both sides. Seth Webster retired the first 11 batters of the game for the Boomers while Stetson Nelson allowed a hit to the leadoff man, Kenny Towns, and then didn't surrender another until the final frame. Lake Erie tallied an unearned run in the fourth and added a run in the fifth to account for the 2-0 final. Webster struck out 6 and allowed just 3 hits in the hard luck loss.

Steve Hagen allowed just a third-inning single to Towns in the second contest. Towns has hit safely in 11 consecutive contests. Hagen struck out 10 and walked 4 as the Crushers swept, using a pair of homers to hand Scott Schultz the defeat.
