South Elgin says so long to summer

The 20th annual South Elgin Riverfest Express ended its four-day run Sunday at Panton Mill Park.

Between 7,000 and 10,000 people were expected to attend the all volunteer-run festival, which featured carnival rides, a craft show and business expo, live music, plus a BMX bike demonstration and car show.

The festival is usually the third weekend in August, but was moved up a week this year since school in South Elgin starts Wednesday.

"It's a good way to end the summer," Joyce Ware, co-chairwoman of the village's special events committee, said before the fest. "School is starting. It's a good way for people to get together and enjoy the last hurrah for South Elgin."
