Elgin Genealogical Society to learn about Sons of Union Veterans

The Elgin Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, in the first-floor meeting room of the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.

Gordon Struve of the Northeast Washington Genealogical Society in Colville, Washington, will be presenting "Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War: They Wore Union Blue."

He will be sharing a brief review of the Civil War era, the formation of the Grand Army of the Republic, and then the creation of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Come learn about their preservation and educational efforts.

Information about the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War databases also will be presented.

The Elgin Genealogical Society evening meetings are generally the third Thursday of the month at the Gail Borden Public Library.
