NHL star Chris Chelios coming to Geneva Commons

A beloved Chicago hockey star is coming to the Randall Road corridor this month to meet his fans and sign some autographs.

NFL Hall of Famer Chris Chelios will appear at the Geneva Commons mall along Randall Road on Saturday, Aug. 27.

There will be a VIP event with Chelios from noon to 12:30 p.m. for a select number of lucky fans. However, a public meet and greet will follow from 1 to 3 p.m. in front of California Pizza Kitchen.

Chelios, who played with the Blackhawks and many other clubs during his 26 seasons in the NHL, will try to meet as many fans as he can in the allotted time period for his visit.

You can secure your place in line for the event by picking up a wristband beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 27. Given the popularity of Chelios, you will probably want to be there early to ensure you get one.

Wristbands will be given out while supplies last. There will be one wristband given out per person.

It might be hard to choose which item you'd love Chelios' signature on. However, at the event, there also will be a limit of one autographed item from Chelios per person.

While the quantities of wristbands are limited, the public is welcome to attend the Chelios event, the folks at Geneva Commons said, in hopes of getting a glimpse of the NHL Hall of Famer, who set the record for the most games - 1,651 - played by a defenseman in NHL history. There also will be a DJ at the Chelios event and giveaways for fans.

While Chelios currently is on the coaching staff for the Detroit Red Wings, he remains a popular sport figure in Chicago with many devoted fans.

By going to the Geneva Commons Facebook page, fans can enter to win a VIP package to meet Chelios before the general public meet and greet on Aug. 27.

There will be 20 winners for the VIP Chelios package.

The Facebook contest will from Aug. 15 to 22.

Geneva Commons is at 602 Commons Drive.
