Junior chefs showcased at CCSD21 celebration

CCSD21 middle school students showcased their chef skills at Holmes Middle School Wednesday evening. The celebration was the culmination of the Illinois Junior Chef program, enrichment sessions that were added to the students' summer school experience.

Students shared healthy eating tips with those in attendance and demonstrated skills to cook healthy snacks. Every family in attendance received a recipe book, ingredients to make a healthy snack at home, and kitchen tools. Three lucky participants won $10 gift cards to Target.

"Our students did a tremendous job sharing what they learned with the community and we appreciate the contributions of the University of Illinois Extension and Target for offering this opportunity to our students," said Martin Hopkins, Principal of Holmes Middle School.

The Illinois Junior Chef enrichment sessions were led by adults and teens through the University of Illinois Extension and funded with a grant from Target.
