Elk Grove kids spread word about prostate cancer

Alexandra, Grace and Jason Majer of Elk Grove and Gabrielle Burgess of Bloomingdale put up a "SEA of Blue Lemonade Stand" recently, complete with blue lemonade, wigs and signs.

The stand was intended to raise awareness for prostate cancer and the upcoming SEA Blue Prostate Cancer Walk/Run scheduled for Sept. 11 in Chicago.

Jason, a fifth-grader at Link Elementary, has been a participant with his mom, Pam Majer, in the SEA Blue event since he was a baby. Jason decided to hold the lemonade stand because they wanted to do something more to raise awareness. The kids raised approximately $50 from their stand and donated it all to the SEA Blue Walk.

"We dressed all in blue, because blue is to prostate cancer just like pink is to breast cancer. We wanted to get people's attention," said Jason.

More than 220,000 men are diagnosed each year with prostate cancer. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. For information on the SEA BlueProstate Cancer Walk, visit www.seablueprostatewalk.org.
