Streamwood man charged in attempted Elgin robbery

A Streamwood man was charged with attempted armed robbery after Elgin police drove up on his attempt to rob a business, police said.

Just after 5 a.m. Saturday police saw a man run from the parking lot of a business in the 400 block of South McLean Boulevard across four lanes of traffic and then hop in a vehicle stopped on McLean Boulevard, Elgin police said in a release.

Police tried to stop him without success. After an investigation, police say Kevin J. Hamilton, 19, had been armed with a gun and waiting outside the business to enter and demand money. He never entered the store, and no one was injured, police said.

He was arrested Sunday and charged with attempted armed robbery. He appeared in bond court Monday morning and a Kane County Judge set his bond at $100,000.
