PechaKucha Night returns to Batavia Thursday

PechaKucha Night Batavia, Volume 4, will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Island View Banquets, 645 S. River St. (Route 25). Island View Banquets is owned and operated by Batavia's VFW Post 1197.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per person (cash only). Food and drink, provided by Pal Joey's in Batavia, will be available for an additional charge (cash only).

PechaKucha Night is an evening of engaging presentations by a number of speakers in a fun, social environment. Each speaker talks about a topic while 20 images (slides) are displayed for 20 seconds each. An emcee introduces each speaker and there is an intermission - called a Beer Break - when the audience can partake in any beverage, alcoholic or not, and food.

PechaKucha Volume 4 is called "An AuGust Gathering." Jaime Gutierrez, DJ for Seriously Fun Events, and facilities manager at Water Street Studios, returns to emcee the evening.

The eight "An AuGust Gathering" presenters are Jennifer DuBose, Sarah Garcia, Gary Ricke, and Jo Ann Smith of Batavia; Michael Barton, North Aurora; Jim Jenkins and Yvonne, "E. V." Jones of Geneva; and Ron Onesti, Wood Dale. Their presentations promise to be entertaining and enlightening.

The idea of PechaKucha Night originated in Tokyo in 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. The fun, lively events now take place in 900 cities around the world.

The premier sponsor for PechaKucha Batavia Volume 3 is BEI Properties. Other sponsors are Anderson Advertising Design, Batavia Public Library, Hix Bros. Music, Island View Banquets, Neighbors Magazines, and Pal Joey's Restaurant and Bar.
