Motorcyclist killed in Batavia crash; 6th biker to die in Kane since July 1

A 20-year-old man from Oswego was killed Thursday night when his motorcycle crashed with a car at Randall Road and Main Street in Batavia - the sixth such fatal crash in Kane County in about a month.

The crash occurred about 8:20 p.m. when a 2009 Pontiac Vibe traveling south on Randall Road attempted to turn left onto Main Street and collided with a northbound 1994 Kawasaki Ninja, Batavia Detective Kevin Bretz said. Both the Pontiac and the motorcycle had a green light, he said.

The motorcyclist, not named pending notification of next of kin, was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva and later pronounced dead, police said.

Two occupants of the car were uninjured and declined medical aid, Batavia fire officials said.

The Vibe was being driven by a 15-year-old girl from North Aurora, police said, though the passenger was an adult.

No citations have been issued, Bretz said, and the crash remains under investigation by police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.

The man is the sixth motorcyclist to die in a crash in Kane County since July 1.

• July 31: A man was killed on Jericho Road near McCarron Road in Sugar Grove Township. According to the Kane County sheriff's office, he was passing two vehicles that were stopped, while one was waiting to make a left turn. The first vehicle began making the turn, and the motorcyclist ran in to it.

• July 17: A man lost control of the motorcycle he was driving on Center Street near Dexter Avenue in Elgin. He hit a curb, then a utility pole.

• July 10: A man died when he changed lanes to make a right turn in front of a car at Farnsworth Avenue and Corporate Boulevard in Aurora. He was not wearing a helmet, and police say he died of "massive" head injuries.

• July 8: On Route 25 south of Elgin, the driver of a pickup truck turned in front of a motorcyclist, killing the motorcyclist.

• July 2: A passenger on a motorcycle was killed when she was thrown from the bike after the driver lost control after swerving to avoid a car turning onto Route 20 from Highland Woods Boulevard in Elgin.
