CLC Gallery of Art announces exhibit calendar for 2016-17 exhibits

The College of Lake County's Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art has announced its exhibit calendar for the 2016-17 season, which will include six diverse shows. The season include solo exhibits by two guest artists, Jessica Gondek of Chicago and Jeana Klein of Boone, North Carolina, as well as exhibits by artist members of the gallery, CLC faculty and students.

Opening receptions are held from 6-8 p.m., are free and open to the public and include live music and refreshments. Please park in Lot 1 on the north side of campus and enter through the Technology Building entrance (T1). The college is located at 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake, Ill.

The CLC Gallery of Art will present the following exhibits in the 2016-17 academic year:

Enterprising Machines: Recent Works by Jessica Gondek: Aug. 26 to Oct. 2. Gondek's abstract work stems from her interest in technology, geometry, machine aesthetics, nature and architecture. She works in painting and both digital and traditional printmaking. Her aesthetic concerns can be traced back to several art historical figures, including DaVinci's inventions and war machines, Piranesi's whimsical architectural spaces, the Futurists' works celebrating technology and the pre-Dada works of Duchamp and Picabia that take a more uncertain view on technology. Gondek earned an M.F.A. from Washington University, St. Louis, and a B.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is an associate professor at Loyola University Chicago. Reception: Friday, Aug. 26, 6-8 p.m.

Recent Works: A Juried Competition: Oct. 7 to Nov. 13. The 36th annual competition includes all fine art media and is open to all artists who live or work in Lake County. Approximately $2,000 will be awarded in cash prizes and purchase awards for the college's art collection. Reception: Friday, Oct. 7, 6-8 p.m.

Art Faculty Show: Nov. 18 to Jan. 15. The College of Lake County's full-time and adjunct fine art faculty will present their works in this triennial exhibition. The show will include paintings, drawings, photography, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, and digital media. Reception: Friday, Nov. 18, 6-8 p.m.

Members Exhibition: January 27 to February 26. Enjoy a diverse group show composed of all types of fine art, created by Lake County artists who are members of the gallery. Reception: Friday, Jan. 27, 6-8 p.m.

Jeana Klein, Forgotten Narratives: March 3 to April 2. Klein draws her inspiration from abandoned houses, where she "spies on" people who once lived there, watching them through the telescope of time. Their ghostly voices speak to Klein from the ruins, telling her why they celebrated, how they loved, what brought them joy, what gave them pain, what they wore, what they ate, why they fled. She then digitally merges and manipulates the photographic evidence, breaking the images apart and printing them piecemeal on recycled fabric that is then stitched together to make compositional wholes, adding her own speculative story in acrylic paint. In the end, each piece is no longer image alone, but an image and object in quilt form. Klein lives in Boone, North Carolina, and is associate professor of fibers in the art department at Appalachian State University. Reception: Friday, March 3, 6-8 p.m.

CLC Student Art Competition: April 14 to May 5. A juried exhibit by current CLC art students featuring painting, drawing, computer graphics, photography, ceramics, jewelry, digital media and sculpture. Approximately $1,000 will be presented in cash prizes and purchase awards. The Lake County Art League will sponsor a $500 scholarship. Reception: Friday, April 14, 6-8 p.m.
