Dist. 207 teachers likely to get Park Ridge library cards

All Maine Township High School District 207 teachers will soon be able to get library cards in Park Ridge, whether they live there or not, district officials said.

Already, teachers and students can use the Des Plaines Public Library's services and check out materials, under agreements between the library and school district. The same is the case for students who want to use the Park Ridge Public Library, since some students who live in unincorporated areas of the school district don't have a municipal library to go to, officials said.

This week, the school board approved an agreement with the Park Ridge library allowing teachers to check out up to 50 items at a time for use in their classrooms during the school year.

Teachers will be able to apply for a "teacher card" giving them access to the materials.

Any late fees incurred will be issued to the district, but teachers will be required to sign an agreement that should they incur any fines, they agree to pay back the district, according to Barb Dill-Varga, the district's assistant superintendent for curriculum.

The agreement, which still needs the approval of the Park Ridge library board, runs through the 2018-19 school year.
