Gurnee Days highlights

•Gurnee Idol - Friday, 6 p.m. The contest to find the best high school singer in Gurnee is open to Warren Township residents entering high school and 2016 graduating seniors. One singer will be crowned Gurnee Idol. The panel of judges includes Keith Semple, a top 20 contender on Season 9 of "The Voice."

•Friday Night Beer Garden and entertainment by the Keith Semple Band - 7:30 p.m. The band's songs range from '70s rock to modern pop songs and originals.

•Golf Tournament - Saturday, 7 and 10 a.m. Two scramble tournaments at HeatherRidge Golf Course. Play in one or both tournaments. There's also a putting contest.

•10K Race and 2 Mile Fun Run/Walk - Saturday, 7:30 a.m. The 10K Race and Fun Run/Walk starts at Warren Township High School's O'Plaine Campus and follows the Des Plaines River Trail.

•Great Gurnee Adventure - Saturday, 10:30 a.m. The Gurnee Great Adventure sends teams of four on a scavenger hunt throughout the village, highlighting local landmarks and businesses. Register by Aug. 6.

•Rib Fest - Saturday, noon to 11 p.m. Rib Fest is sponsored by the Gurnee Exchange Club and features rib dinners, a beer garden and a rib-eating contest.

•Saturday Evening Entertainment at Viking Park Band Shell - R-Gang, 5 p.m., R&B, funk and soul from the Motown era into the 21st century; Modern Day Romeos, 8 p.m., Motown, classic rock, metal anthems, '80s and '90s favorites and today's hits.

•Fireworks - Saturday, 9:30 p.m. over Viking Park.

•Pancake Breakfast and the Gurnee Days Car Show - Sunday, 8 a.m. Start with a pancake breakfast at the Viking Park Dance Hall sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police Social Lodge No. 266. Stroll to the annual car show.

•Zumba Party - Sunday, 9 a.m. at Viking Park before the parade. Join Zumba enthusiasts as one of Gurnee Park District's Zumba instructors leads a dance fitness routine incorporating hip-hop, salsa, mamba and other dance moves.

•Parade - Sunday, noon along Old Grand Avenue. The 2016 Gurnee Days Honoree and Parade Marshal Don Henderson will lead the parade.
