Benedictine's Ed.D. program designed to help students make a difference

Applications being accepted for online classes starting this month

Educators and other professionals pursuing an online Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Higher Education and Organizational Change at Benedictine University can start making a difference in the workplace from the moment they log in.

Most doctoral degrees in education focus on theory and scholarly pursuits. But Benedictine's Ed.D. in Higher Education and Organizational Change program gives students the opportunity to make positive changes on a daily basis by focusing on material that can be immediately applied to work.

The program also emphasizes leadership and organizational change, a combination not found in most Ed.D. programs. Students learn from people who are transforming education nationwide at a pace that won't interfere with current work and home demands.

Applications are still being accepted for the Ed.D. program with classes beginning August 29. The program is being offered in an online format only.

The program is intended for practicing professionals who wish to accelerate their career paths or who seek to join the higher education community as university, college or community college administrators. Studies emphasize leadership for educational and organizational improvement.

"People respect the credential, and it helps me be a higher education influencer," said program alumnus Lisa Haas, former director of Learning Solutions at Colorado Technical University who recently accepted the position of director of the Center for Experiential Learning at Benedictine University. " I learned applicable and transferrable skills. It qualifies me for higher leadership roles."

Graduates are also prepared for leadership and management positions in public and private educational agencies and associations. As scholars, they contribute significantly to the understanding and improvement of post-secondary education.

"My new position developed during a strategic review," said program alumnus Tim Collins, chief government relations officer at Johns Hopkins University. "I had the experience and relationships, but it was the Benedictine University Ed.D. that sealed the deal."

Ed.D. program coursework is topical in nature, interdisciplinary in focus and grounded in an inquiry-driven methodology characterized by critical-thinking, analysis and self-reflection. The program readies students for the rigors and challenges of developing and implementing strategic plans, improving learning, managing resources, leading personnel, developing and implementing policy and orchestrating successful change within an organization.

"We seek to develop engaging and effective practitioners who are able to use their attributes and knowledge to achieve best practice in their areas of service and can guide the critical changes necessary to keep higher education in the United States the best in the world," said Sunil Chand, Ph.D., program director.

"We partner with our exceptional students as they undergo deep and lasting transformation through a quality, caring and immersive educational experience," he added. "We are passionate about helping them realize their full potential as transformational leaders."

Classes start August 29. To apply or learn more about the online Ed.D. program at Benedictine University, contact Kristin Logan at (^30) 829-6394 or klogan@ben.edu.
