Hanover Park appoints deputy chief as new top cop

The village of Hanover Park on Wednesday announced the appointment of Michael Menough as the new chief of police.

Menough, who was previously deputy chief and is currently Hanover Park's acting police chief, takes the place of David Webb, who retired July 20. Webb started as Hanover Park's deputy village manager July 25.

Menough has been with Hanover Park for 20 years and most recently commanded the police department's operations division. He has also commanded the Crisis Resolution Team and is a past recipient of the Cook County Sheriff's Award of Merit.

Hanover Park Village President Rod Craig said promoting from within the department helped ensure the new police chief had good working knowledge of the department and would make a smooth transition.

"We had two deputy chiefs who are both highly talented," Craig said. "If we had looked outside of the department, I don't know if we would have found anyone who compares to either of them."

In addition to having a bachelor's degree in law enforcement administration from Western Illinois University, Menough is a graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.

Menough will be sworn in by Craig at the village board meeting on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.
