Hanover Township to host electronics only recycling event

Hanover Township will host its seventh annual Recycling Event from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the township's William Tiknis campus at 250 S. Route 59 in Bartlett.

Due to previous years' volume, and by popular demand, only electronics will be accepted for recycling. The event is free and open only to Hanover Township residents. No businesses will be allowed.

In 2015, more than 4,200 residents recycled items at the event.

"Since we began hosting these events in 2010, the demand has increased significantly for the responsible disposal of televisions and other electronics," said Craig Ochoa, Hanover Township highway commissioner. "With that in mind, we decided to switch gears to an electronics only recycling event to meet the demands of this type of service."

Electronics such as televisions (all types, sizes, and ages), computers, monitors, hard drives, keyboards, printers, speakers, fax machines, and more will be accepted.

Not accepted electronics include household appliances, video and audiocassettes, microwaves, batteries (not contained in equipment), and hazardous waste (mercury-containing devices such as thermostats, thermometers, smoke detectors, etc.). To view a complete list of accepted and not accepted electronics, visit www.hanover-township.org.

All materials collected are recycled or disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner.
