Carbondale officer in serious condition after shooting

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - Carbondale Police Chief Jeff Grubbs says an officer remains in serious but stable condition after he was shot during a pursuit late Sunday.

Grubbs said Monday that the 27-year-old officer was taken to a Carbondale hospital and then transferred to a St. Louis-area hospital for additional treatment. The officer wasn't identified.

Grubbs said the officer was shot when someone opened fire from a vehicle speeding away from a shooting scene. Police say they're looking for two suspects and the shooting is under investigation.

The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports (http://bit.ly/2aiBy6v ) that the southern Illinois police chief said there is a minimum $10,000 reward for the identity of anyone involved. Authorities say the officers didn't return fire.

The Illinois State Police also are investigating. Multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting.
