Elmhurst Architecture Tour explores diverse styles

When it comes to different architectural styles, Elmhurst showcases a diverse array throughout its neighborhoods - classic, prairie style, midcentury modern and many more.

The Elmhurst History Museum and Elmhurst Art Museum invite the public to explore the city's rich architectural heritage with a guided Elmhurst Architecture Walking Tour at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

The walking tour was well-received when it debuted in 2015, and has been brought back due to its popularity. The tour group will explore the streets of Elmhurst with architect and arts educator Robert Bunda, who will share insights about the different styles and architectural details along the way. Lasting approximately 90 minutes, the tour will start at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave., and end at the Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park Ave.

To register for the Elmhurst Architecture Walking Tour, visit elmhurstartmuseum.org in the programs section. The cost is $15 for members of the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation or Elmhurst Art Museum, and $20 for others. The walk is limited to 25 participants.

In addition to the Aug. 20 tour, Bunda will continue the learning experience with a free slide lecture at the Elmhurst Art Museum at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. Using photos selected from the Elmhurst History Museum's collection, Bunda will explore Elmhurst's architectural styles and put them into a broader historical perspective. Registration for this program is also available at elmhurstartmuseum.org, and admission is free.
