Revolution's Davies announces cancer diagnosis, in remission

BOSTON (AP) - The New England Revolution says forward Charlie Davis is in remission after receiving treatment for cancer.

The Revolution made the announcement in a statement Saturday. The former U.S. national team forward told team officials of his diagnosis for liposarcoma earlier this spring. The team said it has honored Davies' wishes for privacy over the past few weeks to allow him to spend time with family and receive treatment.

Davies has appeared in eight games this season for the Revolution, scoring one goal. He has not appeared in a game for New England since April 27. He previously missed a year of soccer while recovering from a car accident in 2009.

Davis has 17 caps for the U.S national team and was a member of the 2008 Olympic team.
