Dragon boat racing returns to Lake Arlington Saturday

The Walgreens Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival returns to Lake Arlington Saturday, blending a 2,500 year-old tradition with the excitement of sport and competition in a high-energy day of racing.

The event, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. is at Flentie Park, Mulberry and Birchwood streets in Arlington Heights, adjacent to the lake located at 2201 N. Windsor Dr. It features recreational and competitive teams in multiple divisions, with competitive paddlers coming from across the U.S. and Canada. Spectator admission is free and there is entertainment, food trucks and giveaways.

The festival supports Adaptive Adventures, a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of individuals with disabilities. And spectators and paddlers can explore the Ascene Chicago Cultural Village and the Walgreens Health and Wellness Village. Paddlers will have their own zone to relax and get race-ready in the Athletes' Village.
