Indiana gospel singer convicted in Illinois child sex case

URBANA, Ill. (AP) - Jurors have convicted an Indiana gospel singer of luring a 13-year-old boy to an Illinois hotel room and having the boy pose for sexually explicit photos.

Federal prosecutors say 44-year-old Shawn Shannon of Muncie, Indiana, was convicted on 19 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of distribution of child pornography. Jurors convicted Shannon Wednesday after a three-day trial.

Prosecutors also accused Shannon of engaging in sexual contact with another minor and taking similar photos. The singer was arrested in April 2015. He will be sentenced Jan. 9 in Urbana federal court.

Federal officials say Decatur police and federal immigration investigators worked on the case.
