Red Wings agree to 2-year, $8M deal with goalie Petr Mrazek

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with goaltender Petr Mrazek.

The Red Wings announced the deal Wednesday.

Mrazek has emerged as Detroit's top goalie, beating out Jimmy Howard.

The 24-year-old Mrazek was 27-16-3 last season with a 2.33 goals-against average in a career-high 54 games. The Czech is 46-30-8 over two NHL regular seasons and has a 4-6 mark with a 1.88 GAA and three shutouts in the playoffs. Detroit drafted the Mrazek six years ago in the fifth round.

Howard has become expendable as a backup with three years left on his $31.8 million, six-year contract and a potential backup to Mrazek, Jared Coreau, signed to a two-year contract.
