Indiana town fires only marshal, county deputies to fill in

GALVESTON, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana town will be depending on off-duty sheriff's deputies to provide law enforcement protection after its only law enforcement officer was fired.
Galveston Town Council President John Hart describes using three or four off-duty Cass County sheriff's deputies to patrol as an emergency stop-gap measure. The Pharos-Tribune of Logansport reports (http://bit.ly/2a9vkr3) the town council voted Tuesday night to fire a marshal - the only law enforcement officer left in town. Galveston is 55 miles north of Indianapolis.
The council is scheduled to meet Monday to discuss the next steps in hiring a replacement.
