Crystal Lake woman charged with stealing PlayStation

A Crystal Lake woman was ordered held on $40,000 bail Wednesday on charges she stole a PlayStation console and four video games from her former Elgin roommate.

Aryanna Eakins, 23, was charged with residential burglary, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Prosecutors say she moved out of the Elgin home June 2 but returned June 22 after her former roommate left for work. When the man returned home, he discovered his property missing, said Cook County assistant state's attorney David Shin.

Police learned from the homeowner that he often left his sliding door unlocked, Shin said. Police also learned from a witness that a woman matching Eakins' description was seen behind the building with an unknown man, Shin said.

Police searched area pawnshops online and found a video console that matched the missing PlayStation at an Elgin pawnshop, Shin said. A woman matching Eakins' description was seen there along with another man, Shin said. Additionally, Eakins provided the Elgin shop with her identification, Shin said.

Eakins has a pending DUI in Kane County, said Shin. She next appears in court on Aug. 18.
