In school shooting case, judge to decide any records dispute

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Remington Arms and the families of some victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre have agreed that any dispute over the release of company documents in a lawsuit brought by the families and a surviving teacher will be decided by a judge.

Both sides informed state Judge Barbara Bellis of their consensus Thursday after meeting privately at the judge's instruction.

The lawsuit says the Madison, North Carolina, company should not have sold the AR-15-style rifle used in the shooting to the general public because it's too dangerous. Remington has asked the judge to dismiss the case.

Also Thursday, Bellis delayed ruling on a motion to dismiss by Riverview Gun Sales, pending the shop's bankruptcy case.

The shop sold the gun used to kill 20 first-graders and six educators.
