Orioles activate Kim from DL; Jimenez returns as new father

BALTIMORE (AP) - The Baltimore Orioles have reinstated rookie outfielder Hyun Soo Kim from the 15-day disabled list and welcomed back pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez from paternity leave.

Kim spent the minimum 15 days on the DL with a right hamstring strain. He returned to the lineup Tuesday night, batting second and playing left field against Colorado.

Kim is batting .329 with three homers and 11 RBIs. He signed with Baltimore in December after a successful nine-year run in the Korean Baseball Organization.

Jimenez missed three days to join his wife for the delivery of the couple's first child, a daughter.

Jimenez has struggled as a starter this season and was relegated to the bullpen before his departure. He has not pitched since July 8.

To clear room on the roster, the Orioles optioned outfielder Dariel Alvarez to Triple-A Norfolk and designated outfielder Julio Borbon for assignment.
