Correction: Chicago-Mackinac Race story

CHICAGO (AP) - In a story July 26 about the Chicago-Mackinac sailboat race, The Associated Press erroneously reported that Windquest was first across the line Monday and that Il Mostro finished second. Those were the results from last year's race. The first boat to cross the line this year was Arete, which finished on Sunday and raced in the multi-hull division.

CHICAGO (AP) - The annual 333-mile sailboat race from Chicago to Mackinac, Michigan, ended with Flying Buffalo winning the Chicago-Mackinac Trophy division of the Chicago Yacht Club event for the fourth time.

Flying Buffalo, owned by Al and Bob Declercq, completed the race at a time of 46 hours and 52 minutes, nearly an hour ahead of second place Providence.

Natalie J won the Mackinac Cup Division with a time of 26 hours and 15 minutes.

Arete was the first boat across the line, reaching Mackinac on Sunday afternoon in 23 hours, 1 minute and 9 seconds. It was racing in the multi-hull division.

A severe thunderstorm hammered the 326-boat fleet off Waukegan late Saturday, with the rough weather continuing into early Sunday. A 48-foot yacht sank during the storm, and 22 boats were forced to drop out.
