Chicago train service restored after damage from storms

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Transit Authority trains were back up and running after severe storms temporarily halted service and damaged stations.

The storms that moved through the Chicago area late Sunday knocked an aluminum pedestrian ramp canopy onto the Blue Line's third rail at a station on the city's West Side. The storms also sent debris onto the track near a station on the city's North Side. No injuries were reported.

CTA officials say one entrance to the Blue Line's Medical District station remained closed Monday morning. Crews were working to repair the torn away canopy.

Chicago Fire Department officials say it appears the walkway was hit by lightning. They say they were called to the scene and evacuated a train.

CTA officials say they're investigating.
