Lombard man pleads guilty to Schaumburg burglaries

A Lombard man who authorities say stole more than $4,000 in cash and merchandise from Schaumburg businesses earlier this year has pleaded guilty to burglary charges.

Armando Rivera, 33, was sentenced to four years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea Friday, court records show.

The sentence came with a recommendation for the Illinois Department of Corrections Impact Incarceration Program, commonly known as boot camp.

Prosecutors say Rivera and another man smashed windows at a food and liquor store on the 800 block of South Roselle Road, a fast-food restaurant on the 700 block of East Schaumburg Road and a motorcycle shop on the 1400 block of North Meacham Road early on Feb. 7. They stole a cash register, cash drawer and other items, authorities said.

Boot camp is an option for offenders under age 35 sentenced to fewer than eight years in prison. Defendants admitted to boot camp can reduce their sentences if they successfully complete the program.

Rivera received credit for 156 days in custody.

Court records list Glenn Frost as his co-defendant. Charges are still pending against Frost, who next appears in court on Aug. 25.
