Veggie Fest a cucumber-cool event
In these sometimes difficult and divisive times, can we all agree on something?
It's fun to say cucumber.
Go ahead, try it out loud: cuuuu-cummmm-berrrr!
Heck, it's even a cool word to write.
So if it was up to us, the star of the two-day Veggie Fest that wrapped up (cucumber wrap, get it?) its run Sunday would have been cucumbers.
And, in a way, they were because the celebration on the grounds of the Science of Spirituality Meditation Center in Lisle was all about cucumbers and about a zillion other vegetables and fruits.
"Our goal is to demonstrate that vegetarian food can be really enjoyable and affordable," organizer Michael Ribet said in the days leading up to the party.
In an effort to prove just that, more than 100 vendors were on hand to offer a variety of tasty treats designed to appeal to just about everybody.
And there was plenty more to do than just eat. Kids, for example, could try their hands at arts and crafts, get their faces painted and even dress up as their favorite fruit, vegetable or animal for a "Vegi-Kids" parade.
Even on a hot day, all that fun stuff left many visitors feeling as cool as a ... well, you know.
