Chicago White Sox send Sale home following 'incident'

About an hour before the Chicago White Sox's scheduled start Saturday against the Detroit Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field, word starting spreading that Chris Sale was scratched from his scheduled start.

Numerous internet "sources" said Sale was scratched with the flu, and there also was heavy speculation the Sox's ace was close to being traded.

In truth, Sale was sent home after being involved in a clubhouse incident.

Here is the statement from White Sox general manager Rick Hahn:

"Chris Sale has been scratched from tonight's scheduled start and sent home from the ballpark by the White Sox due to a clubhouse incident before the game. The incident, which was nonphysical in nature, currently is under further investigation by the club.

"The White Sox will have no additional comment until the investigation is completed."

Sale has had clubhouse issues before.

Angered by Adam LaRoche's abrupt retirement in spring training, Sale got into a heated shouting match with Kenny Williams after the Sox's vice president entered the clubhouse.

In April of last season, Sale tried to get into the Royals' clubhouse after being ejected for his actions in a brawl against Kansas City.

And late in the 2014 season, Sale and manager Robin Ventura were involved in an argument. Ventura "allowed" Sale to go home before the game.

Sale is still at the center of trade talks with several teams, including the Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox.
