Report of missing Gurnee man takes strange turns

Lake County sheriff's deputies spent 12 hours searching for a 46-year-old Gurnee man reported missing after an accident Friday night before finding him and taking him to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

Sheriff's police said the man was involved in a traffic crash, where it's believed he was ejected from his vehicle. He left the scene without seeking medical aid and arrived at a friend's house in the 41600 block of North Lotus Avenue in unincorporated Antioch, where he had obvious signs of injury, police said.

The man requested his friends not call 911 for medical assistance, but due to his injured condition, they did call, at which point the injured man fled on foot, police said. Sheriff's deputies spent nearly 12-hours attempting to locate him. At approximately 9:45 a.m. Saturday, sheriff's deputies found him sleeping at a residence on North Lotus Avenue.

An ambulance took the man to a hospital for treatment of his crash injuries as well as other medical conditions, police said.

"Our sheriff's deputies worked through the night and morning hours to locate this man, who was in obvious need of medical attention," Sheriff Mark Curran said in the news release.

Sheriff's police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
