Algonquin Garden Club rededicates Riverfront flagpole garden

The Algonquin Garden Club has recently redesigned, replanted and rededicated its flagpole garden plot at Riverfront Park. Member Jane Knapp spearheaded this civic improvement project.

Countless hours were spent by garden club members preparing this plot for its renovation. Landscape architect Nancy Brockmeyer designed and donated her services for this project. Also instrumental in this renovation was Rigo Bolanos of Bolanos Landscaping, who provided professional assistance in planting the many flowers, shrubs and trees that were purchased by the club.

This project was made possible by a generous donation by the family of Florence Weck who passed away in 2014. Florence had been a member of the club since 1962. She followed in the steps of her mother, Irma B. Ritt Ebel, who was a 1929 charter member of the garden club.

A plaque in honor of Florence will be placed at the flagpole garden memorializing her many years of dedication and service.

Weck family members Kristen, Geoff, Bonnie and Lanie joined garden club members for the dedication.

The Riverfront Flagpole Garden is one of five Algonquin city gardens members maintain and oversee. With pride, the club continues as stewards of the earth by demonstrating its civic commitment to the city of Algonquin and their fellow citizens.
