90-year-old Aurora man dies from crash injuries

A 90-year-old Aurora man died Thursday of injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle crash that occurred July 16, authorities said Friday.

Arnold G. Breitung of the 1100 block of Drury Lane, died at 3:54 a.m. July 21 at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where he was transferred after receiving initial treatment at an Aurora hospital.

Authorities said Breitung was turning south on Mansfield Drive from westbound Indian Trail Road just before 2 p.m. when witnesses said he suddenly turned back to the right at a high rate of speed.

He proceeded to run over a curbed median, continued across both westbound lanes of traffic, went up the curb on the north side of Indian Trail, struck several bushes and trees, and traveled into a backyard on the 1200 block of York Court. His vehicle came to a rest after striking a large tree.

Breitung, who was the sole occupant of the car, was not wearing a seat belt. There were no other injuries.
