House of worship approved in Vernon Hills

A new place of worship in Vernon Hills has received informal approval from the village board.

The board this past week agreed with recommendations of the planning and zoning commission to approve a special use permit, building plan and parking variation for Chabad of Vernon Hills. Chabad wants to relocate from the Montessori and Music Center in Mundelein to the former J.L. Oil property adjacent to the Mobil gas station at 204 Route 45.

The house of worship would provide religious services to 25 families with seating for up to 55. Classes for up to 40 children on Sunday and 20 adults during the week would be taught. A variation would allow 45 parking spaces instead of the required 49.

Village staff was directed to prepare an ordinance for official approval by the board at future meeting.
